Bug hunting, Thanksgiving and SO much more...

Yes we are back from our annual trip to the woods for Thanksgiving.
The trip was wonderful. The food was excellent. The family time was much needed.
We also had a bug hunt. Mom brought along my old bug box from when I was a kid and Zane enjoyed looking and digging around the woods for bugs.

I still have TONS of pics to share but I have to turn in if I plan on being a normal human being at work tomorrow. I'll share more later!

Thanksgiving Break

Well a quick weekend wrap up first...
Friday was nachos with my starshine, Elizabeth at the Broadmoore Arts & Crafts Show.

Damn it was cold out there that night. This was the first year in FOREVER that I wasn't actually a crafter at the fair...just a shopper. It felt so weird! I've been doing craft shows since I was 13. Seriously, it was bizarre.

Saturday was pretty uneventful, can't even remember what i did Saturday to tell you the truth. LOL! I know those LSU tigers got a butt whippin' but we won't discuss that.

Sunday we decided to go downtown and take in the sights.
Snapped a few cool pics. Love this one of the old state capital building.
Went to the museum but since there was no photography allowed, this is all you get...
It was really nice...nicer that I thought it would be and Zane enjoyed it. We may have to look into a membership and make it a regular occurance.
And Zane got to see a big old "choo choo" engine up close and personal. He loved that. Although he was really sleepy and in somewhat of a daze. We'll have to go back when he is more "into" it.
And lastly we meet sugarbutt out at the LSU campus so Zane could see Mike the tiger. He was simply amazed (and a little scared I think). And then we went for coffee at Starbucks were we all just sat and talked over our beverages and caught up. It was SO nice. Can't wait for another day like that. So many treasures there.

Well that's all...I leave you with a little self portrait. Don't know if it will be my official 365 from Saturday but it's a pretty cools shot.

Well much love. Don't know if I'll be around much this week...I'll be enjoying our rustic, family Thanksgiving. Type ya later! Don't forget to squeeze the ones you are thankful for this week!

Christmas prep & weekend review

Yes this will be the makings of my Christmas decor this year...

White tree, silver ornaments with touches of red, mirror balls and vintage felt elves and red and white gift wrap. I'm very excited about decorating. See I change my decor up every year so it's always new and exciting every year. I just can't wait!

Now for the weekend...Saturday was F-U-L-L!

We started out with our family Cochon Du Lait (our family reunion). I haven't been to it in quite a while since I used to do a craft show every year on that date for years. So it was a treat to get to finally go. This has been a part of my culture since I was a little girl. This year was the 34th annual Cochon Du Lait and although it's not as exciting as years past, it was just as rich in culture and tradition as always.

Of course there was the traditional pig roast. And man that was some delish pork!
Every year they pick a king from all the decedents and this year my daddy was named the "king pig" LOL! SO glad we were able to make it for that!
Zane seemed to enjoy it and had his fair share of hog cracklings! He LOVES them! I only gave him a few but he would have eaten his weight in them if I let him!

My brother took his Godfather duties very seriously by taking him for a walk down the pier and making sure he held his hand and watched his step. He was so cute pointing out all the things on their little nature walk in down the swampy trail to the bayou.
And this picture was just too adorable not to post. This is certainly his best pouty pic yet! Those lips get me every time. And that squint. *be still my heart!*
Then Saturday night we went to a couple shower for my friend Jill who is getting married next month. I made her card and did some stitching on it with the vintage machine I mentioned in my last post. It didn't do so hot on it and jammed up causing my stitching to go a little crazy but she loved it anyway.
Next we went downtown to a fun little pizza joint to grab a bite and kill some time while we wait for another friend of ours, Alissa so we could celebrate her birthday.

After our pizza snack, we met Alissa and gang for a couple drinks. And by drinks I mean coke for me and red bull for David. Damn colds. We both felt like poo so we didn't want to drink and feel worse. We skipped out on bar hopping and turned in early.

Besides a quick Target run today, that's the weekend. Tomorrow starts fresh week. The last full week before the holiday season. Lots to do!

Long Lost 365s

It seems like forever since I posted 365s. I just totally flooded my flickr! Here are some of my latest...
This is my first attempt at sewing. Well on a machine at least. My mom used to sew a ton and she has a number of vintage Singer machines, none of which are in great shape but I managed to find one that works at least part of the time. So...I've been practicing. I hope to get one of my own soon.
Crumby rainy week days suck.
Felt cute this day in my new target shirt.
Snapped this one as I watched Zane run around on the playground at the zoo.
Nothing makes a girl happy like a Starbucks and some Anthro.

This one was taken on election day. Love this one.

And another day at the zoo. This was taken during Zane's first train ride. We have been pretty much every weekend since. Such a great Sunday tradition we have started.

You can see more of the 365s on flickr. There is a link here to the right.

Weekend recap coming up!

Wednesday, November 12, 2008

I promised you scrappies...and here they are.
A card for my daddy's birthday and a bunch of layouts...all made with my October Masters kit. Such a wonderful kit. So warm and fuzzy! LOL!

This one has a flip up section that reveals hidden pictures and journaling
And yes, another double page layout! *gasp* I know.

Now I have to finish up my big 'ol pot of chili for daddy's birthday and I'll post more. Kisses!

Midweek Weekend Recap...

Ok so I'll admit that Wednesday is a little late for a weekend update but at least I'm updating. Right?
Thursday was my dad's long awaited retirement party. My poor dad has waited so long for this point in his life. Dispite a number of illnesses, including a heart condition, he has worked all his life and finally gets to enjoy the joys of retirement. Granted the stock market is looming over his head, but he is staying optimistic. So anyways, we went to a nice little banquet hall and had a lovely dinner in his honor.
He got to spend time with family and friends, some of which he hasn't seen in quite some time. And even got gifts, which he was totally not expecting so that was a nice suprise for him.
The dinner was great and everyone had a great time.
And here he is with my sweet mom. These two mean so much to me and done so much for me and our family. Made so many sacrifices and always encouraged us to follow our hearts and our dreams. They never once pushed us to do anything we didn't want to do but always encouraged us. To me, they have been the best parents anyone could ask for.
Then, Saturday was my niece's first birthday.
My brother is such a proud papa!
So Sunday Zane woke up wanting to ride the choo choo. So off to the zoo we went to ride the train. It was such a beautiful day for it too!
And right there at the zoo playground, I took what is quite possibly the funniest picture of him to date. I thought it was hillarious!

Ok, all for now. Still have a ton of 365s and a few more layouts to share. Maybe a second post is in order today. We'll see.
