Two Alarm Party!

Today the boys got to go to two of their cousins birthday parties in one!
Brady turned 3 and Riely turned 1!  Holly had it at the fire station, which was precious;)
Zane enjoyed getting to see all the fire gear
Liam just liked roaming around and exploring it all!
They even got to ride the fire truck!  Well Zane did!  Liam stayed back with me;)
It was a great day!

Sneek Attack

Did you know you could use your cyber stalking skills for good?
Oh yeah...I stalked a friend of mine's Pinterest board cause I wanted to bring something to surprise her for her son's birthday party.  She was bummed out cause she didn't get to do any of the wonderful things she had carefully picked out to do for his birthday party because she was in the hospital the week before his party.  So I nosed around on her pinterest boards and found a board with birthday party ideas she was saving and found these!  So I whipped them up and brought them to the party for her.  They turned out great and I think I have found a new party food go to item!  I had to give her props for pinning this treat!  They are caramel covered green grapes dipped in crushed salted peanuts.  So yummy!  My point is, you must do this for someone one day!  Use your cyber stalking for good;)

Weather Observations

When you are doing a project like Mommy Summer Camp you find teaching moments in everything.  It brings your motherly intuition to a whole new level!  So when Zane came to me asking me and asked "Is a Katrina coming?" when a tropical storm was headed our way in the gulf I took that opportunity to discuss weather patterns with him.
I went to the internet and printed out all sorts of worksheets and kid friendly things on the subject (I found a great blog with some useful info here)
So sure enough, that week when we were discussing, we went outside and got to watch a storm roll in.  It was great.  We observed the change in the winds.  The clouds forming and changing and moving.  The birds reacting.  The smell of rain in the air.  The color of the sky.  The moisture in the air.  The rumble of the thunder.  And finally  the drops of rain.  We hussled inside as the rain fell and watched from the window.  Then we watched as the rain fell and watched it puddle on the ground and splash and drain away.
Now when it rains or the weather changes he is not freaked out, he understands.  He is facinated even.  He wants to observe.  I'm so proud.

Rain Stick Project

Today for Zane's arts and crafts project we did a rain stick!  We just took a paper towel roll and put some rice in it then put cupcake liners on each end and secured it with rubber bands and decorated.  Easy.  You can make it more complicated by inserting toothpicks to deflect sound but for him this was fine.  He loved was all about decorating it for him.

15 years ago today...

15 years ago today I was looking out the window on a similarly rainy day, anxiously waiting for a super cute guy to come pick me up for our very first date. Who knew. Crazy. *This pic wasn't our first date...we didn't have the camera handy with us at Pizza Hut light years before smart phones! LOL! Happy 15 years my hunny;)

When Music Meets Arts & Crafts

I love when I can combine Music with Arts & Crafts!
During Mommy Summer Camp obviously we have Arts & Crafts but we also have music and sometimes it's hard to come up with music stuff to do with Z because he doesn't really get into it.  He don't enjoy some of the stuff typical kids get into.  But this...he loves!  So we made guitars with paint sticks, paper plates and rubber bands.
The next day we made a drum with a veggie can, a ballon and a rubber band!  We played music and had a grand 'ol time!

Story Time

Story Time!
Today when it was time for story time Zane went pick out his book and piled up pillows in his favorite spot (under the dinning room table) so we could read.  He is loving this and it warms my heart!

As for Liam...well he thinks he is a rock star;)

One little fish...

Ok, so not really...
But Zane is taking swim lessons at the YMCA this summer.  He has major anxiety when it comes to the water so he is making a lot of progress.  The boat ride for the water safety portion is by far his favorite part;)
